T-Moms

Bad nickname, good band. So I'm getting into Taylor Momsen's band-- The Pretty Reckless. Sure, they're slutty, and they're only 16. But they are totally in with my new Runaways obsession. In fact, T-Moms auditioned to play her idol, Cherie Currie, in the movie. Dakota Fanning got the role. Eh. While D-Fann was amazing, I feel like she didn't quite have the same rock and roll attitude the other girls (like K-Stew) did. Although, that could have been the point. Cherie Currie was known to be a fan of slower, more melodic songs, an artistic difference that led to her leaving the band. Anywho, The Pretty Reckless' album comes out late August, and it's sure to be full of 3-chord songs, catchy choruses, and a Joan Jett-esque growl. I could not have asked for better timing. And just for kicks, I'll write about the band's controversial image. The new music video features a lingerie-clad T-Moms crawling on the table in a Last Supper scene as she breaks glass over the heads of her disciple band mates. Onstage, she wears a corset, fishnets (sounds like Cherie Currie to me...), and stripper heels complete with a clear platform labeled "tips". So she's a bad girl. WHO CARES!? Let the rockers roll, kiddos! The Pretty Reckless are a throw back to girl power of the '70s. They are free. They are young. They are slutty. They are empowering. And the Biblical references are nothing new. Does the name Madonna mean anything to you guys? Well, I'll be checking out the new music video for "Miss Nothing." So you should too.
