"Act like a star, be treated like a star."

Any guesses as to who spoke these words?
Lady Gaga?
Judy Garland?
Kris Kardashian?

David Bowie, my friends. As quoted in a fab website all about Max's Kansas City, the NYC home to the glam rock movement. Los Angeles may have boasted Rodney Bingenheimer's English Disco but New York had the Back Room at Max's. I discovered this fantasyland of yore in Vanity Fair, so I knew it must obvi be great. And it is!

Here's the website:

I'll be perusing. So you should too.

Yay Paris

Guys, I'm super pumped to go to Europe this summer.

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Also, I'm super pumped to wear Western business attire.

Yay.

On a different note, Paris Hilton was arrested for cocaine possession this week. For those of you keeping tabs, that's her third drug arrest this summer. Yikes. The best part is, though, she told the cops she assumed the bag of mysterious white powder in her purse was "gum".... yeah....

P.S. I'm watching Whip-It right now, review to follow.

BEST SOUNDTRACK EVER.

So you should too.

Stop

Guys this blissue is about 2 things: bragging and movies.

Bragging.
I want to take a minute to brag about my spectacular prediction skills. Who has been channeling her inner 70s glam rocker all summer? Me. And now 1970s is everywhere! Chloé showed high-waisted pants and tie neck blouses for Fall 2010, and Chanel is selling longsleeved crochet dresses. Michael Kors' ads look like stills from the 1970 classic "Love Story." Just call me...whatever. I can predict stuff. So as I sit here, watching The Runaways for the millionth time (nope, still not over it.) I am relishing in my happiness. But this should come as no surprise. Because, readers, I am always right.

Movies.
Now that that's over, movies. More specifically, upcoming movies I'm dying to see.
The Black Swan: Natalie Portman stars as a ballerina who goes crazy. Yes. I love Natalie Portman, crazy people. And what better way to celebrate my own severance from ballet (barring, of course, setting fire to a certain studio), right?
I'm Still Here: Remember Joaquin Pheonix's crazy spell? With the nasty beard (you too, dad), the weird fatness, the oh-so-awkward Letterman interview? He went insane. Well luckily for me, and any others out there who love stuff like this, Casey Affleck was there with his handy dandy documentary film crew! So now Joaquin's life is a documentary. YAY.
127 Hours: This movie looks basically EXACTLY the same as Into The Wild, which, if you remember, I hated, because Emile Hirsch died and left K-Stew alone. Or something like that. Well this stars James Franco (whaddup, Yale PhD Department??) as a bicyclist/explorer/adventurer who helps out some sightseeing chicks (Tibby from Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and Kate Mara from my fave Russian horror film!) and ends up trapped under a rock? Whatevs. He's stranded. And it's based on a true story. Maybe he won't die. I'll google and get back to you.

Well, for now, I'm gonna keep watching The Runaways and wishing I was born in 1956. So you should too.

PrOcRaStInAtIoN

YAYYYY im procrastinating yayyyyy.

time for some new Typewrite Socialite vocab:

Obvi: (adv) clearly apparent, obvious. "I was obvi in the checkout line first, but she cut in front of me to buy some Purell."
Garbage: (noun, adj) someone or something that is unsavory, disliked, useless. "This day is garbage, this school is garbage, this town is garbage!" [adv. garbagely.]

and how about a picture of my fake parents again, kay?

im going back to study now. so you should too.

Readers, I'm researching for LIMUN tryouts/falling back in love with Russia. Super busy once again. Sweet. So for a short and not sweet blissue I thought I'd give you a little list of the songs I'm listening to lately, that is, if you're not one of the lucky few who receives a regular CD from me.

1. "Sixteen" Iggy Pop and The Stooges
2. "Chop and Change" The Black Keys
3. "Creeque Alley" The Mamas and The Papas
4. "Straight to Hell" The Clash (ripped off by MIA much?)
5. "Suffragette City" David Bowie
6. "Mama's Boy" Suzi Quatro
7. "Crimson and Clover" Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
8. "Age of Aquarius" Cast of HAIR
9. "Like A Prayer" Cast of GLEE
10. "Miss Nothing" The Pretty Reckless

There.

Night.

I'm gonna go study.

So you should too.

Timecrunch

Shout out to all my college-bound (or college residing, for that matter) buds who read my blog! Whoo! I don't have any time tonight, guys. I've got a Pliny test for Latin tomorrow and I'm starting a new book. (Charlaine Harris', the TV show True Blood was based on her series!). Anywho, I'm gonna leave you guys with some interesting findings.

I <3 criminals!

...and you thought I only liked figure skating during the Olympics!

Just in time for the official Season 4 return of Little J.

Connecting to my sophisticated side.

Connecting to my creepy (normal) side.

well, that's all for now. Take it or leave it. I may have time to peruse these. So you should too.

NECESSITY

Guys, I have found the best jacket ever. And I must have it. It's getting to be jacket season, you know. And no better place to look than Etsy.com, the best online vintage! So here's my baby:

Sooooo glam rock. Doin' ya proud, Suzi Quatro! Best part? I'm only one babysitting gig away. However, always prepared, I have some back up options.

NOT TO BE WORN WITH MAXI SKIRTS. This oh-so-woodstock jacket is only to be worn with trousers or a short skirt, and a simple top, like my J. Crew tees. And perhaps my fave Betsey Johnson belt at the awkward ruched part?

I'm getting ready for jackets. So you should too.

Word of the day is...

SERIAL KILLERS!
okay, two words.
My fave two words!

So who gets to be the lucky murderer blogged about by yours truly?

Lizzie Borden!
(I bet you thought I was gonna say Charles Manson, didn't you?!)

Lizzie was a feisty little firecracker. Yeah, she offed her parents! Cray-zee. I wanna get inside her head, have a convo over a chai latte. Too bad she died in like 1860 or something.

So how did Lizzie, a good ole churchgoing gal from Boston commit "one of the most dastardly and diabolical crimes that was ever committed in Massachusetts" (according to her defense attorney... she prolly should have realized that these are not encouraging words coming from your DEFENSE ATTORNEY)? Well, one day in August she hacked up her parents with an axe while they were nappin'. I told you she was crazy.... but her motives still remain a mystery, and that's why this is a famous case.

Now, don't get too creeped out, readers. I like her for the same reasons I enjoy reading a good Greek tragedy now and then. For comic relief!

Well, I certainly won't be offing my parents anytime soon. So you SHOULDN'T too. (ch-ch-ch-ch-changes!)

jk, they're going down!

jk.

jk, forreal.

CREEPR

Yo, guys. I'm bored/procrastinating so it's the perfect time for a blissue! Today I thought I would to an extra creepy one. Sound good?

FAVORITE CELEB COUPLES
The Bowies. Cute? Not sure... but the model turned makeup mogul and my fave glam rocker sure are interesting.

Coolest people ever.

Well, Jim, you didn't marry Pam in real life, but I suppose my favorite character from The Devil Wears Prada is okay.

???

Why am I not their child?

Well, there ya go. A little insight into my celeb stalking! I'm getting back to work now with a little help from The Clash. So you should too.

Sup, guys?

Well, what a week. School! They certainly made up for lost time. But on to more exciting things. I've had my treasured white Geneva watch since the 9th grade. I loved that watch dearly. I have lots of good memories with that watch. However, FREAKING SANDRA BULLOCK WORE ONE IN THE BLIND SIDE AND NOW THEY'RE EVERYWHERE. Not okay. So yesterday I trolled for watches, and I lucked out with the perfect one! I knew I wanted white, duh. So flossy. My perfect match?

This BCBG chronograph! It's white, gold, and fab. I'm in love. I'm ready to face this new week at school now! So you should too.

Answered Prayers

Well, it was a sad day in the life of Typewrite Socialite when the famed website BagBorrowOrSteal.com changed management and became lame. The website, which charged a monthly membership fee (plus an additional charge for items borrowed) allowed a client to borrow designer handbags and accessories for a month, and if they really like the item, they could buy it. Well I've found a new website that is even better! I'd heard a lot about shoedazzle.com through ads, magazines (O!, Real Simple, etc.) but I never checked it out until today! The site was founded by Kim Kardashian. I know it seems like I'm stalking her but this was a coincidence. Btw, who knew she styled Brandi back in her Cinderella days? Anyways, the website is FREE to join, and EVERY item costs $40. I'm not sure if you are obligated to buy every month or just as you please, but I'll find out and get back to you. The way it works is you fill out a short style questionnaire that involves choosing runway looks, brands, and shoes that most appeal to you. Then, a team of stylists review your results and choose a few items a month for you to choose from. This doesn't seem like a scam, and it's free to join so why not, right? Oh, and send me your emails if you're interested and I'll get you 20% your first purchase! A $32 pair of shoes ain't bad! I'll be anxiously awaiting this month's choices. So you should too.

In Search Of Lost Time...

Well, readers, I haven't been blogging since skewl started. But for good reason! I'm already crazy busy! These teachers are certainly making up for lost time. It seems only yesterday I was watching Kardashians reruns and now I'm making notecards and reading chapters. But at least I'm not in chemistry. So it will be a slow week. Suck it up. Because I'll be workin' hard, not hardly workin'. So you should too.

P.S. Check the Kardashians' memoir cover? CLICHE. LAME. HA!

I'M BAAAAAACK

Well, readers, summer is over. Tomorrow, I start school. Sigh. But tis not all bad! I've put together a last hurrah of summer blissue to help you keep remembering those 100+ degree days and Cali Kraze yogurt-fueled nights, and distract you from that looming assignment.

Television
Late summer is always a good time for TV. NOT. Great shows return (or begin, I guess) in September and end in May. But above average shows choose July or August to start. For example:

Covert Affairs: I like! I've been a fan of Piper Perabo since her stint on Broadway (& Beverly Hills Chihuahua!!!), and she delivers as a cute little spy. It's entertaining. Mostly.

Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami/Keeping Up With The Kardashians: Love. Their petty family dramas are hilarious, but I actually like the Kardashian clan, they're funny, and I've gotten a lot of good makeup tips.

Beauty

OPI "What's With the Cattitude?" Nail Polish: I finally stumbled upon the perfect light blue at Amplify Salon & Spa here in Motown. (across from Filet & Vine in Cloverdale) Yay!

Bed Bath & Beyond ClearTex Beauty Caddy: CHANGED MY LIFE! My bathroom counter has never been so organized! Or pretty!

Life

Serena and Lily Bedding: This furniture and linens company (they specialize in nursery furnishings but also have options for those of us in big girl beds) has fantastic prints that just SCREAM summer. Directly from the website they carry a hefty price tag, but websites like amazon.com and eBay have them for cheap.

Snuggie: I used to be a hater. No more! Thanks to a fantastic b-day gift I received my very own Slanket: The Snuzzle Blanket! (cousin to the Snuggie) and I never take it off. Make the transition into cooler weather with one of these babies.

So I hope these randomies make your first week of school a little more tolerable. So go ahead, procrastinate! Check out those Serena and Lily duvet sets on eBay instead of doing homework! You will have plenty of time to catch up on school.

Jk.

I'll be embracing the change, guys. So you should too.

The Last Whatever

Well guys, summer is coming to an end. Forrealz. Today I get my schedule, and then go to the lake for a last jaunt. I'm saying goodbye to a dear friend who's moving to Texas, and saying goodbye to late night television. I'm gonna miss being carefree, hot, and lazy. I'm gonna miss it a lot. But a new year brings new things. My soundtrack for these last few days? Mamas and Papas. Cuz no one understands me like Mama Cass. I'll be kickin back. So you should too.*

*except if you haven't finished your summer work, in which case, get your butt outta the la-z-boy!

Test Run

Sup, readers? So tonight I ran some errands that included picking up something to test out. And that's Olay Daily Facials Hydrating Cleansing Cloths. Celebs like Kim Kardashian cite disposable cloths such as these (or ones by MAC, but we don't have MAC in Motown) for their clear, glowing skin. I've never, ever had a regimented skincare routine but this summer I've really stepped it up. I've started using a Clinique 3-Step Skincare regimen I found in my linen closet from God knows how long ago. This includes: mild facial soap, toner/astringent, and oil-free moisturizer. I use a Bioré night serum skin recharger to help with blemishes, and in the mornings I wear SPF 15 under my makeup. So anyways, back to the Olay Daily Facials, they totally take the place of the first 2 steps in the Clinique line. My face was clean and soft and oil free after using it. I still needed moisturizer/recharger, but overall it was great. Best part was I didn't have to dirty up a washcloth! I'll be using 'em. So you should too.

Falsies

Hey lo! How's life goin, readers? I've been on a bit of a beauty blogging spree. Deal. Maybe in a former life I was Gucci Westman. Anyways, there's another trend I've recently become aware of that I am... questioning. And that is false eyelashes. I associate them with my years in acting class, particularly a very Tammy Fay pair I wore in Seussical, The Musical. They seem a theatricality, not a casual look. But maybe I'm wrong. After all, we wear all kinds of junk on our faces nowadays. One thing is clear, though. They should only be worn in a natural way. Check out Lo Bosworth's crash course on her fab blog! I'll be trying them out sometime. So you should too.
