SPOTTED

I am like so beyond obsessed with something new guys. What? Zaha Hadid's limited edition shoes for Lacoste. They're not "cute", or "trendy", they're Zaha. I came to love this whimsical architect recently when I encountered her "Coffee and Tea Service" at the High Museum of the Woodruff Arts Center in ATL. I applaud her for her ability to see inside a hunk of silver or a strip of rubber a glistening and angular sculpture and a high fashion loafer. I'm lovin it. So you should too.

War Part II

So, guys! I have some trés exciting news! It's a secret though, sorry. (Shout out to a certain Vogue employee who may or may not have "really liked" my blog).

On a different note, yet another friend has decided to wage a blog war with yours truly. Readers will remember that Typewrite Socialite was victorious in the battle against Say It Isn't So. And, TS, I will be victorious again! Look out :)

So I'm gonna bring the fashion back to my blog. Starting with....

MY FAVE UP AND COMING DESIGNERS
1. Matthew Williamson- I'm obsessed with his stuff. OBSESSED. Fun, flirty, chic, colorful, amazing. His clothes are so effortlessly cool.

spaceball.gif2. Jeffrey Hart- SCAD awarded him the Golden Scissors for Womenswear at his senior fashion show, and for good reason. His clothes are a guilty pleasure-- dark, mysterious, vampy.

That's just a sneak peak, guys.
I'm getting ready for war. So you should too.

Book List

So, basically. I've reinvented myself in a quest to become more interesting. This involves going to art school and reading Lady Gaga's bio. I've lined up another book to read as well. What? Cop Without A Badge. Fans of Real Housewives of New Jersey will recognize this as the book that exposed Danielle as a "prostitution whore". I'm pumped. I'm gonna read it. So you should too.
Also, I'm gonna share with you guys an ULTIMATE GAGA playlist I've been handing out to friends. Enjoy!

Unis

Guys, I'll be frank with you. I am struggling with this uniform thing. For a long time I've fought battles over clothes. People thinking the way I dress is weird, trying to conform, deciding to rebel, etc. After this year, I swore to myself I would not sell out to the mainstream, I would wear what I want when I want, whether it please the judgmental and uptight population of Montgomery or not. Then, uniforms! Gone is my chance for renewal. Gone! Now, I'm left with accessorization to fulfill my goal. Shoes and headbands are my last hurrah. So, I've decided to be bold with them. Hello, perforated boots and strappy sandals! Meet Celia, eager wearer. I'll be busy being myself, readers. So you should too.

back. unfortunately.

Guys, woahhh. I've just spent a week livin' it up in ATL. I miss it deeply. I miss walking around, and living in a dorm, and being cool. Also, I am now planning on getting tickets to Lady Gaga's concert there in April 2011! Super pumped. I have a great song to share with you guys, too. I just found it on Frostwire. It's her cover of Viva la Vida. It's so Gaga. Fave line "be my chris and i'll be your gwyneth" lawl. So, anyways, shout out to any SCAD friends reading this? It was a great week. I'm tired. I'll blog lata. But, I'll be listening to this song. So you should too.

The Intelligentsia

Readers, I have come to a conclusion. Over what? My fam. I think it's pretty clear that we are, in fact, members of The Intelligentsia. I have prepared a few examples:
#1. My dad once worked for the National Spelling Bee as a word chooser, and at the Encyclopedia Brittanica. Nerdiness is like as important a job requirement at these places as a degree.
#2. We read obscure books. (Austerity Britain. Sounds EXCITING............not.)
#3. I recently made a deal with my mother: 5 chapters of Anna Karenina in exchange for shopping.
#4. We argue in parliamentary debate form.
#5. We all wear glasses.
#6. We know that Salman Rushdie is not a type of fish.
#7. We wear sweatervests. And wool socks.

***AT THIS TIME I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE SUPER-KUDOS TO THOSE OF YOU WHO RECOGNIZED THE ABOVE PHOTO AS ONE OF "INTELLIGENTSIA COFFEE" ***

This coffee place intrigues me, guys. I'll be googling it. So you should too.

Favorite Things.

So, it's been awhile. I know. Don't think I don't know, 'cause I know. However, I have an exciting blissue for ya! While idling about today I stumbled upon the best TV episode of any show ever. Ever. Barefoot Contessa's Mac and Cheese.
VOCAB INTERMISSION
Barefoot Contessa: (TV show) Ina Garten, a richy-rich Hamptons chef lady makes food in her oh-so-fab barn turned kitchen and then takes it to her gay friends in the entertainment business to surprise them.
Mac and Cheese: Typewrite Socialite's favorite food.
NOW BACK TO YOUR BLISSUE
Okay so today, Ina made lobster mac and cheese, truffle mac and cheese, and bleu cheese mac and cheese. Heaaaaveeennn. For your benefit, I'll post the recipes. Your welcome.

Coming up: I'll be watching/reviewing The Lovely Bones. This, in case you don't know, is like my all time favorite book. We'll seeeeeee.

For now, I'm off to make some fancy shmancy mac and cheese. So you should too.
LOBSTA

Ingredients

  • Kosher salt
  • Vegetable oil
  • 1 pound cavatappi or elbow macaroni
  • 1 quart milk
  • 8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, divided
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 12 ounces Gruyere cheese, grated (4 cups)
  • 8 ounces extra-sharp Cheddar, grated (2 cups)
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 pounds cooked lobster meat
  • 1 1/2 cups fresh white bread crumbs (5 slices, crusts removed)

Directions

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Drizzle oil into a large pot of boiling salted water. Add the pasta and cook according to the directions on the package, 6 to 8 minutes. Drain well.

Meanwhile, heat the milk in a small saucepan, but don't boil it. In a large pot, melt 6 tablespoons of butter and add the flour. Cook over low heat for 2 minutes, stirring with a whisk. Still whisking, add the hot milk and cook for a minute or two more, until thickened and smooth. Off the heat, add the Gruyere, Cheddar, 1 tablespoon salt, the pepper, and nutmeg. Add the cooked macaroni and lobster and stir well. Place the mixture in 6 to 8 individual gratin dishes.

Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter, combine them with the fresh bread crumbs, and sprinkle on the top. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbly and the macaroni is browned on the top.

TRUFFLE

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Good olive oil
  • 1/2 pound shiitake mushrooms, stems removed and caps sliced 1/2-inch
  • 1/2 pound cremini mushrooms, stems removed and caps sliced 1/2-inch
  • 3 tablespoons cream sherry
  • Kosher salt
  • 1 pound pasta, such as cavatappi
  • 3 ounces white truffle butter (recommended: D'Artagnan)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 quart whole milk, scalded
  • 12 ounces Gruyere cheese, grated (4 cups)
  • 8 ounces extra-sharp Cheddar, grated (2 1/2 to 3 cups)
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons freshly chopped parsley leaves
  • 1 1/2 cups fresh white bread crumbs

Directions

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Heat the butter and 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large (12-inch) saute pan, add the mushrooms, and cook over medium heat for 3 to 5 minutes, until they are tender. Add the sherry and continue to saute for a few more minutes, until the sherry is absorbed. Set aside.

Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add a splash of olive oil and a pinch of salt. Add the pasta and cook for 6 to 8 minutes, until al dente. Drain well.

Meanwhile, melt the truffle butter in a large (4-quart) saucepan and whisk in the flour. Cook for 2 minutes over low heat, stirring constantly with a whisk. Slowly whisk in the hot milk and cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon, until the white sauce is thickened and creamy. Off the heat, add the Gruyere, Cheddar, 1 1/2 tablespoons salt, the pepper, and nutmeg.

Combine the pasta, sauce, and mushrooms in a large bowl and pour them into a 10 by 13 by 2-inch baking dish.

Place the garlic and parsley in the bowl of a food processor fitted with the steel blade and pulse until they're minced. Add the bread crumbs and pulse to combine. Sprinkle the crumbs over the pasta and bake for 35 to 45 minutes, until the sauce is bubbly and the crumbs are golden brown. Serve hot.

HOME.

Greetings, readers! Yeah, yeah, I know you're asking, "Where'd you go? I missed you so. Seems like it's been forever, since you've been gone. Please come back home!" Well, I listened. And, I'm home. I've had quite the week, and now, being renewed with the Spirit and the Good Lord and all that I'm ready to tackle a new post! However, I will need some R & R first. Patience, my friends, is a virtue. I'll be rejuvenating myself with a little peach tea, fyi. So you should too.

PS- should any reader be caught wearing high socks with tennis shoes in accordance with some BIZARRE trend taking root, he/she will be disowned and banned. thx.

Excuses, Excuses

Guys, I don't mean to brag. Actually, scratch that. I do want to brag. I am a master of excuses. However, I do not have a legitimate one for the amount of time I let elapse between the last post and this one. It's awful. In that time, I have developed a new obsession. You are probably not at all surprised. And...... 9 By Design! It always happens that I fall in love with a TV show right before the end of the season, leaving me to buy all the preceding episodes on iTunes in order to make sense of the finale. Heh. This show chronicles the charmical life of the Novogratz family. This NYC couple and their SEVEN kids have inspired me to do two things: 1) be an interior designer and 2) have 7 kids. Basically to be them. With effortless cool, they renovate and reconstruct sex shops and gun stores in Lower Manhattan into glamourous and chic townhomes that sell for upwards of 15 million buckaroos. CRAZY. Their life is busy, fun, and over the top. And they make me feel like a pathetic cry baby for disliking a little spring cleaning. I'll also be perusing their new book, Downtown Chic. So you should too.
